Reflections From the NFA Conference

I know it might seem a little late to send reflections from the National Fireworks Association (NFA) Conference down in Rogers, AR — but as they say, better late than never! I’d be remiss not to share a few thoughts about my time there and some of the fireworks marketing tips I was able to share.

It’s always a pleasure being in a room full of like-minded fireworks retailers. Our industry is full of honest, hardworking, and kind-hearted people, and I’m continually reminded of how special that is. I loved getting to talk, shop, share meals, and connect with so many wonderful folks in the retail fireworks space.

I was fortunate to have my seminar selected for Tuesday morning, where I had the opportunity to share insights on fireworks marketing best practices and some compelling client success data. Teaching and presenting on how fireworks retailers can grow through smart digital strategies is one of my favorite things to do.

Fireworks Marketing Insights You Might Have Missed

During my seminar, I shared insights on digital marketing and operational strategies that help firework stands and stores grow. For the upcoming holiday season, here’s what every fireworks retailer should focus on:

  • Google Business Profile (GBP): Make sure it’s fully optimized, ranks in local searches, and shows correct hours.
  • Google Reviews: Have a system to gather reviews consistently.
  • Website: Ensure it ranks well and converts visitors into customers.
  • Marketing Emails: Stay in touch with your customers and keep them coming back.
  • Social Media Plan: Have a plan for posts and if you plan to advertise follow best-practices to avoid suspension.
  • Manager Training System: Develop management training to ensure everything runs smoothly.

These are the building blocks that make digital marketing and operations actually work for fireworks retailers. If you get these right, everything else falls into place, from foot traffic to repeat customers and smoother operations across your stands.

Fireworks marketing isn’t just about handing out flyers or putting up the biggest billboard. The real impact comes from the digital side – showing up where people are actually searching for you.

When your Google Business Profile is optimized and your website ranks and converts, you’re set up for success. Add scheduled emails, a planned social media presence, and a system to gather Google reviews, and you give your stand a solid foundation to sell more fireworks.

The NFA is always a great reminder of what makes this industry special — hardworking, honest people who care about their customers and their business. But passion alone isn’t enough to grow consistently.

Success comes from combining that passion with smart systems and strategies that make your stand run smoothly and keep customers coming back. When your operations are solid and your fireworks marketing efforts are focused, you can sell more fireworks without scrambling at the last minute. This means you’ll be free to spend more time doing what you love: serving your community and creating a great customer experience.
