Getting Your Fireworks Store Ranked On Google

If you’re a firework retailer looking to be more visible online, one of the key questions you’ve likely asked is, “Where can I rank on Google?”

Understanding the places you can appear on a Google search page is the first step toward deciding on a search engine strategy that will bring more customers to your fireworks business.

Let’s break it down into the three primary areas where your business can rank on Google’s first page.

1. Paid Advertising Positions

At the very top of a Google search results page, you’ll find paid advertising positions. These are marked as ads and are the result of Google’s pay-per-click (PPC) advertising system. To appear here, businesses bid on keywords related to their offerings.

There’s just one problem with the above information. While paid advertising is typically an option for businesses, it is not applicable to the fireworks space. Firework business owners cannot run paid advertisements on Google, Facebook (or really anywhere online, at the present moment) because it is against their terms of service. According to Google “Ads for products that are designed to explode” are not allowed and this includes fireworks and firecrackers.

If you sell fireworks that “don’t explode” I suppose you might have some merit to stand on to advertise your products. Seeing as fireworks do tend to “explode”, I think you get the idea that Google just doesn’t want to take part in fireworks advertising.

2. The Map Pack

Even though fireworks advertising on Google seems to be out of the picture (for now), there are better ways to get seen. Just below the paid ads lies the “map pack” (also known as the local pack, snack pack, or Google three-pack). This section prominently displays three businesses that match the user’s search query, along with their locations on a map. Ranking here is crucial for businesses with a physical location, because it directly connects you with local customers.

To improve your chances of ranking in the map pack without fireworks advertising, you’ll need to optimize your Google Business Profile. Here’s a list of optimization that you can start working through:

  • Keeping your information accurate and up-to-date.
  • Encouraging satisfied customers to leave positive reviews.
  • Adding high-quality photos of your store and products.
  • Including relevant keywords in your profile description.

3. Website Links Section

The third area you can rank on Google’s first page is below the map pack, in the “website links” section. This is where organic search results appear, and it’s often the most competitive space. These results are based on Google’s algorithm, which evaluates the relevance and authority of your website in relation to the search query.

To rank in this section, you’ll need a strong SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy that includes:

  • Creating fresh, high-quality, and keyword-rich content.
  • Building backlinks from reputable websites.
  • Ensuring your site is mobile-friendly and loads quickly.
  • Regularly updating your site with valuable information for your audience.

Understanding how to rank on Google is a crucial step toward growing your fireworks business.  Paid fireworks advertising may be off the table, but the two other prime spots on Google—the “map pack” and the “website links” area—are still available, accessible, and begging for someone to claim the all-important real estate on page one.

The best part? They’re free! You don’t need to pay Google to rank in these places, but you do have to play their game. By optimizing your website, creating fresh content, and embracing the art of SEO, you should start to see a rise in your Google ranking and your revenue. Paid fireworks advertising is out, and organic growth is in.
